Macrobiotic diet has been known for a long time, or in fact for centuries, since it became popular to say that food has a huge impact on our entire lives, and that it can provide us with harmony and happiness, and above all, excellent health. It comes from ancient Chinese medicine, whose philosophy assumed that in food, as in life, we can also find a representation of two elements – Yin and Yang.
The first of them – Yin – is a kind of energy directed outside. The feature of this element is sweet taste, looseness and darkness as well as relaxation and cooling sensation. Yang, however, directs its energy to the inside. The salty taste prevails here, additionally the element is accompanied by shrinkage, dryness and heat. It’s important to preserve the harmony between the two energies, which is the basis of the macrobiotic diet. In connection with these assumptions, meals should be composed in such a way that they contain flavours: sour, spicy, salty and sweet.
Macrobiotic diet – rules
The premise of a macrobiotic diet is balanced nutrition and consumption of natural products from own crops. The reason for this is living in harmony with the laws of nature. The most consumed here are vegetables and grains, which form the basis of the menu. In addition, the meals should include legumes and fruits. Fish consumption is allowed, and even recommended. A well-balanced meal according to the macrobiotic diet can take the form of, for example, grains with vegetables, fish, lettuce, and poultry and fruit.
Due to the fact that meals are mainly based on plants, this diet is close to vegetarian. In addition, it’s a low-protein diet, although the level of protein must be maintained at the appropriate level by supplying it with products of plant origin.
The short time of using the diet – 2 weeks – speaks for it to be used. During this time, three meals are eaten daily, based mainly on fruits, vegetables and grains, which account for 70% of the daily menu. Every meal should also end with the consumption of silage, which includes: cabbage, celery, cucumbers and lettuce. You can afford a small amount of animal products that only have an additive. You should not forget to drink a lot of water, and you can also drink coffee or herbal teas.
What should you not eat?
There are products that should not be consumed in any amount during this diet. They are mainly eggs, meat of slaughter animals, and milk products. In addition, you also cannot use dietary supplements, because the food is to be completely natural, unprocessed and provide all the necessary ingredients.
The great advantage of a macrobiotic diet is that you can lose up to 5 kilos in two weeks. This is not the only benefit that comes from this way of eating. The advantage here is primarily the high level of vitamins and minerals provided. With food we also take antioxidants that prevent aging and have anti-cancer effects.
