The alkaline diet helps cleanse our body. The most important principle is the acid-base balance. It occurs when our blood has a pH of 7.35 to a maximum of 7.45. Any deviation over the upper limit leads to acidosis, and those below normal to alkalosis. They are dangerous diseases that manifest themselves just in the wrong pH of the blood.
Acidification of the body can manifest itself through excessive hair loss, frequent drowsiness, concentration problems, difficulty falling asleep, and anxiety.
The alkaline diet, as the name suggests, focuses on the consumption of alkaline products and the complete elimination of acidic foods. The first should be in the daily menu and must be at least 70%. Do not eat products such as sugar, white flour, rice, oatmeal, pasta, trans fats, animal protein, coffee and dark tea, and alcohol. It’s worth mentioning that nicotine also has acidic action.
What products to consume while on an alkaline diet?
– green vegetables, especially raw ones;
– raw fruit and jams unsweetened with sugar, especially we have to try to eat lemons and grapefruits that have alkalizing effect, which means that they reduce the acidic pH in the body;
– plant sprouts, e.g. bean sprouts, radishes, broccoli etc.;
– almonds, hazelnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds – all these seeds should be soaked, because this way they gain a better effect;
– soy – preferably in the least processed form.
When to go on an alkaline diet?
It’s best to get interested in it when we feel ailments such as: headaches and dizziness, spots in front of our eyes, vomiting and nausea, bitter aftertaste in the mouth, weakness, and problems with concentration. It will help us get rid of these unpleasant symptoms. To improve the situation, it’s necessary to reduce or abandon the dishes and products that can acidify our body. Sometimes we just need to detox and abandon products that acidify us, but not always. We can only reduce carbohydrates and give up sugaring drinks, such as tea, to feel the differences and improve the mood.
During this method of nutrition, we limit the products that acidify us, and at the same time are fattening (e.g. sugar) – at the same time we care about our figure. The disadvantage of this diet is a significant reduction in meat, which can lead to iron deficiency, and above all vitamin B12. To prevent this, you should supplement it. When it comes to healthy sources of protein, we can focus on eating fish and seafood. They are not as acidifying as meat, and at the same time they have many very helpful fatty acids.
