CHIA SEEDS – ARE THEY WORTH EATING?

Spanish Sage is already known from the Aztec and Maya times. Its tradition dates back more than 5,500 years, and nowadays, chia seeds fall into favor and are used by more and more people who put their health on their plate. The name chia means – fat and oily, so the Spanish sage is a product consisting mainly of fats. Fortunately, it’s a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids n – 3 and n – 6, as well as a soluble fraction of dietary fiber. Due to the presence of alpha linolenic acid belonging to the family of omega-3 acids, we deliver it in the right amount, which is still not enough in most people, because, after all, most of us take in a much larger amount of omega-6, and those in excess cause an increase in coagulation blood, allergic reactions and inflammation.

What does chia contain?

Taking these seeds we receive everything that is valuable for our body. In their composition there are such minerals as calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium, as well as numerous vitamins, including B1, B2, C, A, folic acid and niacin. There are also antioxidants in them. And although these seeds are very calorific, because in 100g of the product we have nearly 500 calories, they are undoubtedly a worthy product anto have in our diet.

The properties of Spanish sage, or is chia really so healthy?

Spanish Sage has many nutritional values, and this makes the seeds have a lot of health-promoting properties. In particular, they reduce blood pressure, have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, laxative, as well as anti-cancer. Chia seeds prevent faster aging, which is mainly associated with oxidative DNA damage. So what does chia contain that it has such a beneficial effect on the human body? These seeds contain, above all, alpha-linolenic acid, which significantly affects brain support, memory improvement as well as concentration. It allows to lower blood triacylglycerols concentration, as well as VLDL cholesterol fraction, with simultaneous increase of HDL fraction concentration.
