At the thought of the upcoming holidays, every person on a diet gets a white fever. Get tempted by these tasty Christmas Eve dishes, or stick to clean eating all the time? Eat sensibly, but with taste that we associate with Christmas Eve, or better to completely give up these dishes? There are many questions rising in our heads and it’s really difficult to find one, the best answer to this question.
It all depends on many factors, on our approach, whether we know the word moderation and whether we approach the diet with common sense. In this article, we want to focus on one very important topic, namely the issue of detox after the holidays. Does it really make sense? Is detoxing after the holidays a good option to be able to cleanse the body and feel lighter?
What is detox?
Detoxing means to cleanse the body of toxins. In the purely medical understanding, the kidneys and the liver are responsible, because they allow the body to excrete harmful metabolism products, as well as alcohol metabolites for example. In case of poisoning, detox is also used in toxicological departments. So where does this word come from in terms of a specific diet, based primarily on specially composed, vegetable cocktails? This method of nutrition for a few days in the scientific understanding is no detox, but this is how this time of being on a special diet by all of us is defined by this word.
Does detox work?
Everything really depends on what we care about. If someone thinks that three days of detoxification will cleanse the body and bring them down a few kilos, then we must disappoint you – that certainly won’t happen! No miracle soup, no special juice for several days, or eating porridge alone can cause our body to undergo miraculous detoxification. It does not work like that. A far better solution than detox is to focus on healthy, unprocessed food. A lot of plant-based products, no flour, no refined oil, no sugar, and a small amount of salt. We are able to feel better, and at the same time look only thanks to a properly balanced, healthy diet, because no detox for a few days are able to lift our body on the legs and clean it of everything that we have packed into ourselves for years.
What about detox after the holidays?
In this case, we should understand the word detox in a different sense. It’s known that fatty, caloric foods eaten for several days already reflect on hiccups. We feel tired, weak, we gain some weight, it’s hard for us. In such cases, detox is a very good way to feel better after Christmas eating. This can not be treated as a form of cleansing the body, after which we will suddenly be a few kilos lighter and deprived of everything that is inappropriate for us. This post-holiday detox is a relief for the digestive systems, which have been working at their highest speeds for the last few days. Such a detox should therefore contain large amounts of vitamins, minerals, as well as polyphenols, fiber and of course what you cannot live without, i.e. water. However, one should remember a very important rule here – such a diet should not be used for a long time, because it does not provide us with what our body needs. So it’s so important that after a few days of eating like this, we get back on track, of course based on a healthy, nutritious and properly balanced diet.
Ways to feel better after the holidays:
- lots of water, green tea and herbal infusions
- For breakfast have porridge with water or vegetable milk plus fruit. Such a meal will definitely help us get rid of excess cholesterol
- lots of fresh green vegetable juices, additionally using spices
- Vegetable soups with the addition of oil, herbs and groats. The perfect solution for a dinner meal. They work primarily to improve intestinal motility.
- vegetable salads with stones and nuts
- Natural kefir and yogurt – bacteria that have a positive effect on the intestinal flora.
- don’t fry, only focus on cooked items, lean meat and fish, delicate dishes
- minimize flour products
- as little salt as possible, which is worth replacing with various herbs, selected spices or, for example, apple cider vinegar.
- no more sugar and sweet drinks
If we stick to the above principles, we will certainly feel much better in a very short time. This is absolutely no detox, but a way for the body to get back on track. What do we get out of detox, where we will see 3 kilos less weight? This is not fat, only excess water from the body. In these 2-3 days we can get rid of the residual content from the intestine, excess sodium, and thus water. However, fat remains in place. The body must receive all the ingredients to function properly and not lose muscle.
There are no miracle diets, and no detox is able to cleanse us, even after this holiday season. Of course, it’s worth having a 2-3 day vegetable diet, and then switch to balanced, properly composed meals. Only because of this will we be able to gain 100% satisfaction and full satisfaction of the choice made. It’s not about seeing 3 kilos less. It works for a moment, it builds our mind. In essence, it’s about looking better and feeling great all the time, so a healthy diet is needed every day, not the momentary detox that we think will suddenly change our appearance and make you feel fit. This is not how it works, because if it worked, each of us would look perfect.
