Everything about ginger

Ginger is a plant originating from Asian countries known for over 2,000 years. This plant is used both in medicine and in the kitchen. It grows in a tropical climate, and is also grown in temperate climates in greenhouses. The part used is a rhizome that you can buy fresh, ground or candied.

Ginger root contains essential oils and resin, which are responsible for healing properties. The phenolic compound called gingerol is responsible for the spicy, burning and characteristic spicy taste. In 100 g raw ginger rhizome is 80 kcal, 1.82 g of protein, 0.75 g of fat, 17.7 g of carbohydrates and 2 g of fiber.

Application in the kitchen

Ginger, because of its original taste, very often guests in the kitchen. This plant is added to many dishes such as fruit salads, marmalades, broth, sauces, pates and spicy meat dishes. Ennobles the taste of coolers prepared on the basis of curdled milk or kefir. It gives spicy aromas to gingerbread and cookies. Ginger teas are excellent, which will warm you up even on the coldest days. This plant also applies to the production of quality alcoholic beverages. In connection with the upcoming Christmas, the aroma of ginger slowly begins to host in the kitchen. This spice is ideal for many Christmas dishes. We can find it, for example, in ready-made mixtures of gingerbread spices.

Ginger root, in addition to the use in the kitchen is very valued because of its healing properties. The herb has a warming effect, stimulates blood circulation and helps in colds. We recommend a ginger compote of pears that will put you on your feet. It is also an alternative to drugs used in motion sickness. Soothes nausea without causing drowsiness. If you suffer from motion sickness, get candied ginger and reach for it during the trip. Despite its spicy taste, ginger has a soothing effect on the digestive system. Ginger is a wonderful plant with many properties that can not be missing in your kitchen. Use it in moderation and you will give your dishes an oriental flavor.
