An increasing number of people, especially women, are struggling with Hashimoto’s disease. This insidious chronic thyroiditis is a very big problem that affects both the work of the body and our appearance. People suffering from Hashimoto very often gain weight having absolutely no control over it. And when they want to start weight loss, it turns out to be not as easy as it might seem. So what does weight loss with Hashimoto look like? Can you get sick and be thin at the same time? Although it’s more difficult to fight the excess kilos, if you want – you can do anything!

What is Hashimoto?

it’s an autoimmune disease manifested as hypothyroidism, which results, among others, in the problem of maintaining a healthy body weight, associated with a slowdown in metabolism. it’s also responsible for chronic fatigue, pain in joints and muscles, for disorders of the digestive and nervous systems. It affects mood, cholesterol levels, hair loss and dry skin. The sooner the disease is diagnosed, the better will the results of its treatment be, and more precisely the selection of appropriate drugs at a relatively appropriate time.

What does weight loss look like with Hashimoto’s disease?

At the very beginning you should realize that weight loss and Hashimoto do not go hand in hand. The combination of a healthy and balanced diet with the fight against progressive thyroid disease and choosing the right level of thyroid hormones is not easy, but not impossible. Here you have to give 150%, be consistent, strong and determined, and you will certainly be able to achieve what you care about.

If we want to surrender to this challenge, it’s undoubtedly worth putting on the help of an endocrinologist and dietitian who will together choose the solution that will prove to be the most effective for us.

What should be in the diet of a person suffering from Hashimoto? Certainly the most natural products. We should give up processed foods and excess simple carbohydrates, including white sugar, sweets or wheat flour products. Your diet should include better protein – lean meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, as well as healthy fats, i.e. omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Appropriate amounts of vegetables and fruits are also needed.

In the diet of a person suffering from Hashimoto, it’s very important to eat meals regularly as well as drink adequate amounts of water. Physical activity is also necessary, without which it would be practically impossible to notice the effects of weight loss. If you combine all these elements together, then you can get the intended results.

Summary

it’s obligatory to remember that this disease is chronic. There is no cure for it, so if we want to fight for a better look, we must choose the option – forever. We cannot change our eating habits temporarily, because everything will come back with doubled strength. We must learn to eat healthy every day for the rest of our lives.
