Where does hunger come from?
Wanting to fully understand the specifics of reaching for „forbidden food”, it all comes down to hunger. We are hungry, so we order fast food quickly, we don’t have a meal on hand, we quickly pick a chocolate bar from the vending machine. So where does this hunger come from? What causes it? A lot is being researched on this topic. Some believe that it’s associated with a shortage of nutrients, others believe that the culprit’s a small amount of sleep, others are convinced that hunger exists only in our head, and actually certain eating habits make us reach for something just like that. Increasingly, many researchers are convincing us that hunger can be associated only with external factors, and not necessarily with a lack of ingredients or fatigue. To give up sweets and processed, unhealthy food, we should first of all find ways to get rid of hunger. If we reduce our appetite, certainly the temptation to reach for something sweet or unhealthy will lessen.
Tips – how to stop hunger!
● drinking water
Humans consists mostly of water and it’s what we need the most in life. A person should drink about 1.5 – 2 liters of water a day to feel good. If you feel hungry, certainly drinking a large glass of water will help us reduce hunger and thus protect us from reaching for something that is completely unhealthy for our body.
● fighting boredom
It turns out that trying to combat boredom, might help us overcome the feeling of hunger. We often think about food when we have nothing to do at the moment or when we have no activity. Working on a task, being in a meeting, going for some crazy shopping with friends, then we absolutely do not feel hunger. It appears when our thoughts rest for a moment. So when we have a desire for a sweet or salty snack, it’s worth doing something for a moment – play a game on your phone, read a chapter in your book, call a friend.
● drinking coffee
As more and more research shows, coffee can stop the rapid consumption of energy. So if we drink it, we’ll be able to eat much less than if we didn’t drink it. Many people drink coffee as part of a meal on a reducing diet to reduce their calorie intake.
● toothpaste or chewing gum
It turns out that the mint flavor can significantly affect our appetite. If you feel hungry, all you have to do is take a chewing gum that can temporarily stop it, and if you don’t have it on hand, a little toothpaste on your tongue can work wonders.
● more protein
Undoubtedly, people who experience frequent hunger may have too little protein in their diet. A larger amount reduces appetite, guarantees satiety for longer and protects us from obsessive snacking in the evening and night.
● physical activity
Released endorphins are the best that we can provide our body. So when we are still thinking about food and are unable to control hunger, it’s definitely worth introducing movement into your life, because thanks to it you will definitely feel much better. Intensive training is out of the question when we’re hungry, because firstly we have no strength, and secondly just after we will eat a double portion, but it’s certainly worth introducing a medium-intensity exercise, which will definitely prove to be extremely useful.
● avoiding maximum hunger
If we are a bit hungry, it’s worth having something small to be able to overcome this hunger until the next meal or until we go to sleep. Being stuck in this state can cause more intense hunger, in turn causing the greater need for food. At some point, we will not be able to withstand and instead of one meal, we will immediately eat a double portion. Healthy snacks turn out to be perfect here.
● good sleep for everything
If you feel hungry, this may be due to too little sleep. If you sleep more, the problem may disappear. When you feel hungry, lie down, rest and relax. Maybe if you wake up, your body will work differently than before. Sometimes it seems to us that we do not need a lot of sleep, that we feel good. After some time, however, it turns out that this sleeping pattern completely upset our body and things are happening that we have absolutely no influence and control on. So it’s worth thinking carefully about whether you sleep enough and whether you feel rested every day.
A feeling of thirst, a desire for something sweet, the opportunity to eat a „forbidden thing”. It all tempts us, makes us want it here, then and now. Some are able to defend themselves against what is forbidden, while others are unfortunately unable to persevere in their decision not to eat unhealthy things. Maybe the above tips and tricks will prove to be helpful and at the moment when we want to eat something sweet or spicy, just to what we will try to adapt to the above? Hunger will lower our energy, cause mood swings, negative thinking, or problems related to obesity and diabetes. Things should be called what they are. If there is a problem, you must act immediately. This is the basis. If we want to change something, and hunger is our biggest enemy, it’s definitely worth thinking about applying the elements of the puzzle that we mentioned above, or maybe they will paint a perfect picture together.
