If we were to choose a period of being on a diet that would be the most difficult to survive, it’s definitely Christmas time. A few days of total madness, lots of food, sitting with family, partying. And how do you use common sense in all this? What to do to refrain from those chocolate dripping sweets, fattening dumplings or other foods that have millions of calories while on a diet?
How to endure this time and not get crazy about Christmas fever when it comes to „overeating”? In this article, we will try to find ways to ensure that the holiday diet period is not as terrible as we think. Are you ready for this

Moderation is the key
As in all, moderation is the most advisable. If we don’t have any bodybuilding competitions right now, then these few days of delicate apostasy will do us no harm. Of course, this does not mean that we should eat everything and in any quantity. We should be moderate here, that’s the most important thing. So how do you eat so that these few days do not affect our figure, for which we worked so hard? How to eat so as not to lead to excessive weight gain? First of all, we don’t eat all the time, as most people do. We focus on regular meals at regular intervals. We do not overeat, but we get up from the table with a slight feeling of hunger. Why? Because only after 20 minutes the body will receive the signal of the volume of food eaten. What about sweets? We should not treat dessert as one of the meal parts, because then we will definitely eat it more. If we have an appetite, let’s eat a piece of cake just after dinner, because then we won’t have the strength to eat more.
Hydration is important!
Everyone really knows that you need to drink water, regardless of whether they are on a reduction diet, building weight, or not using any significant diet. Every day, each of us should drink about 2 liters of water. Water allows us to maintain normal physiological reactions, affects energy metabolism, protects against flatulence, gas and constipation. If we hydrate properly, the body will be able to produce a sufficient amount of gastric juices, which in turn are the basis if we want to quickly digest festive dishes and sweets.
What else to use?
Certainly, if we are preparing a Christmas menu, it’s worth ensuring that its calorific value is reduced to a small extent. It seems difficult, but in fact it’s not as terrible as it may seem. So what is worth remembering?
● Instead of frying fish in deep oil and batter, let’s put the fish in the oven, and grill or steam it. Well cooked, it can also taste delicious.
● Instead of cream for whitening soups and sauces, let’s add natural yogurt, with which prepared meals can taste just as well as heavy ones with cream in the lead role.
● Instead of gravy, which most of us use for many dishes, we can replace them with a blanched onion, and we can rest assured that everyone will like it.
● Instead of bacon or fatty sausage, stew can be prepared based on poultry, venison or beef. With the right spices, it will also taste great.
● When it comes to salads, instead of mayonnaise they should contain natural yogurt or Greek yogurt.
Although initially not everyone will enjoy this option, you can quickly get used to it.
Still active
So what if it’s Christmas? You don’t necessarily have to spend it in front of the TV or at the table. We can move in any way. It’s important to do something. You can go out with the family for a long walk in the evening, you can jog in the company of friends, or do some training at home. During the holidays we can be active in 100 different ways. Maybe making a snowman with children or go sledding if it’s snowing, of course? Hide and seek in the woods? Family competition? Playing on xBox with kinect? There are really many ideas and such Christmas activities can both make our time more pleasant, strengthen ties, but also burn a lot of calories accumulated during the holidays.
Another very important thing is not to cook as if it were to be a week of celebration. We usually make more food than an army can eat, and then eat it for a few days. For what? By doing so, we can cause the excess weight to be visible after a few days. Remember, during the holidays, you may gently slacken the belts, but let’s do everything not to reduce the weight, but at least keep it as we have it.
And the last thing is that after Christmas we immediately return to the „right track”. So our regularity, counting calories, properly composed meals and regular trainings return. Only this way will we be able to continue fighting for the desired appearance, and even if we are unable to maintain a relatively diet, then we should not try to atone for it. Fasting or three workouts a day will certainly not be a better choice.
Summary
Let this Christmas be a magical time for everyone. Let’s love, respect, try to spend as much time as possible, and let food be only an add-on and not the main element.
