MYTHS ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS – PART 1

There are many myths, golden rules and wonderful tips about losing weight. However, if they were all true, we would not know what obesity is and not as many people would be overweight. It’s true that weight loss is an extremely complicated process that first of all requires the right amount of time, a large dose of motivation, and for this self-denial and hard work. Nobody gained 20 kilos in a week and nobody lost them in a week. You must be aware of this and this aspect should be kept in mind as much as possible. Below we want to present the most absurd myths, if it comes to what weight loss should look like. Are you ready?

Are the calories from all products equal?

One of the first dilemmas that should undoubtedly be taken into account are calories, which is what the whole philosophy of weight loss is all about. We count and look at calories, we want to gain this caloric deficit, just to be able to focus on effective weight loss. It turns out that many of us wonder if one calorie is equal to another. How does it work? Is it true or the myth that other calories are not equal? Calories are a measurement of energy and they determine the same energy content. This is absolutely true. However, when it comes to whether they all have the same effect on our weight, it turns out that it’s not entirely. 200 calories of protein will be a completely different activity for our body than 200 calories of carbohydrates or fats. This aspect should be kept in mind and remembered. Someone who bets on five meals a day with a total calorie amount of 1500 calories consisting of nutritious meals certainly will not provide the body with the same content as eating five bars of 300 calories each. The calories are not the same in different products, and to say that all calories are equal is a pure myth.

Is weight loss a linear process?

We often wonder if weight loss is a linear process in which we systematically lose a certain amount of kilograms. Is that so or is it not true? Many believe that this is a typically linear process, but this is not entirely true. Sometimes in one week we lose two kilograms, and then in the next we lose only 400 grams or lose nothing. This is the most normal phenomenon and we should not be afraid of anything under any circumstances, because that is how it looks. The weight tends to fluctuate, so once we can lose more weight, other times less, or the weight can stand still for a long time, otherwise it may soar up slightly. So keep that in mind as much as possible. It’s a myth, then, that weight loss is a linear process.

Can supplements help us lose weight?

Dietary supplements market is bursting at the seams. New specifics are constantly appearing on the market that is designed to help us lose excess weight and remove this disliked excess fat. The supplement market has perfectly developed marketing, which means that people rave about this type of product and catch it like fresh rolls. In fact, however, these specifics alone do not have a big impact on our weight loss. Often, their use goes hand in hand with the fact that we want to want more, so we focus on more activity and choose a better diet. Therefore, the supplements themselves don’t do anything, but our approach does. It’s a myth, then, that dietary supplements are the perfect means for weight loss.

Is weight loss a power of will or biology?

It’s difficult to answer the question unambiguously here whether weight loss is more a will or biology. Both the statement that it’s only a strong will is a myth, but the statement that it’s pure biology is also a myth. Each case is different and everyone has different laws and affects our body differently. Genetic, biological as well as environmental factors influence our appearance and mass. All this means that in some people the reason for poor weight loss may be the lack of a strong will associated with food, while in others it may be, for example, a sick thyroid or PCOS. Therefore, one must always approach each case fully rationally.

Is more movement, less food a good choice?

It would seem logical that to lose weight you should eat less and move more. Of course, this is most important, but the very definition of the weight loss process does not bring anything good, because it burns quickly and makes us lose motivation. We operate according to a specific pattern and it really takes a moment, and then everything returns to the starting point. First of all, you want to have visions, want changes in your appearance. We should introduce activity not on the basis of compulsory training, but as something that gives us pleasure and that drives us to action. Similarly with diet – we should focus on healthy, nutritious food, so that it’s our way of eating, not a momentary vision. It’s a myth to say that only eat less and move more will turn out to be a bull’s-eye.

Do carbohydrates make us obese?

It’s true that to lose weight, it’s best to cut carbs. It’s not true, however, that they cause weight gain. Carbohydrates can be divided into simple and complex, and this makes carbs different. A low-carbohydrate diet can contribute to weight loss, but at the same time carbohydrates in the diet, especially the complex ones – this is an extremely important aspect of any menu.

Summary

If you want to lose a few kilograms, you should first of all approach this topic rationally, because only then we are able to achieve what we care about. The basis is therefore a healthy diet for years, not for summer and activity that will not be a forced, but a total pleasure for us.
