At the end of the year, each of us is trying to make a list of resolutions that we will stick to in the new year. One of the most popular is definitely the question of weight loss. We want to lose 5 kilograms, we want to finally join the gym, we want to start running regularly, focus on healthy eating… There are really many ideas and goals and each of us sets our own, those that are to change into reality at the beginning of the new year.
But how to do it? How do you suddenly get up and move to start playing sports? How to turn a heavy calorie diet into a full-fledged, light meal? In this article we will deal with these New Year’s resolutions thoroughly, hoping that they will help you to start implementing them in a moment.
Everything starts with the words „from now”!
We often make resolutions, but their implementation is not so easy. We tell each other that in the end it’s a decision that we have to implement by the end of the year, so we have 12 months to do it. Stop! We certainly won’t get far with this approach. Everything starts here and now. Since we created a to-do list on the last days of December and the topic of weight loss was number one on it, the best time to start is now. Do not wait a week, a month or half a year, but put on weight loss right now!
Motivation plays a very important role in losing weight. It’s what drives us to act, makes us want more. If we see the first effects, we start to act with even greater strength and desire. For example, starting your adventure with running in January, after a month we will see progress, and this will make us stick to training more, still achieving more and more. In weight loss and our resolutions it’s definitely worth going with the small steps method. If we set a goal to lose 10 kilos for the holidays, it will certainly be much more difficult for us to mobilize and act, because this time is extremely long. If, in turn, we decide to take smaller steps at the beginning, so if I lose 4 kilograms by March, I buy my dream leggings … If I can lose 2 kilograms in May, I will go to a sports camp … Small steps in a shorter period of time, and until gifts motivating us. It works for everyone and believe me – it will also help you in the fight against kilos.
Reason is the basis
A significant proportion of people who did not comply with the New Year’s resolutions made a significant mistake. Started too hard, too much, too rigorously. If we’ve been addicted to sweets so far, suddenly throwing away everything sweet is a real horror for us. If our diet was fat, mealy and caloric, suddenly living on salads, rice and lean meat, may not be at our strength. So we start hard, because we want to see the effects quickly, but we do not realize that such action can lead to the opposite effect than the intended one. So you have to remember that, because even if we manage to „rigorously” apply to diet or exercise for the first weeks, sooner or later we will fall, because the body will not be able to deal with these shortcomings cut off immediately. Let’s start slowly. At the beginning let’s allow one sweetness per day, after a month let’s do one cheat day, where for 30 days one day will be the one in which we can eat something sweet. The less it is, the more we will get used to it. After all, sugar and sweets will be completely replaced by healthy sweets. Reason is the most important thing. It’s better to lose 10 kilograms a year and learn healthy eating principles and appropriate habits at this time, than try to lose weight in a few months, where we will give up anyway, and finally we will have the yo-yo effect in the form of subsequent kilograms. Is this what we want? Certainly not!
Diet diet, what about activity?
Undoubtedly, the provisions regarding our diet with the new year are huge. I will eat healthy, give up fast food, unlearn to eat sweets … There can really be a lot of these visions as we mentioned above, if we approach the topic correctly, we will definitely be able to eat healthy. The ground is to get a caloric deficit, thanks to which the body will take energy from our fat, not from food. That is what each of us should take care of first. This does not mean, however, that we should go on hunger strike. Because if we provide the body with too little food, it begins to enter the saving mode, and this means one thing – a slowdown in metabolism. So we have to eat but wisely!
However, let’s leave the topic of diet and let’s move to another very important issue, namely our activity. Regardless of whether we don’t exercise or maybe we focus on activity every day, with the beginning of the new year we set ourselves new provisions. I will start running, I will finally do a half marathon, I want to have a 5 km biathlon, I will buy a bike and ride it to work, make friends with the gym… There are many ideas about our resolutions. How to fulfill them? Just like a diet, right away! We are not looking for excuses for another month, we are not waiting for a better day, in the spring … Everything is in our heads and every season and time is good to start. We are sure that the beginnings are the most difficult, but once we get into the activity and power of endorphins, then after a few weeks, no training will be a pain, but a real pleasure for us.
Let’s remember – if we have New Year’s resolutions regarding weight loss, but not only, the most important thing is to start to do them immediately, in January. Let’s not wait, because it will not give us anything, it can only demotivate us. From January, a healthy diet, five meals a day and common sense in food, and to actively spend time in a variety of forms to feel the power of endorphins and be able to burn as many calories as possible.
