When does weight gain start? At the moment when we eat more calories or reduce activity enough to obtain a positive calorie balance. Each person, depending on their weight, height, and how they live, has the right amount of calories to eat. If there are more calories, it all accumulates as fat. But what if we eat properly and the weight is still growing? What could be the reason for this? What can this be caused by?

No sleep
The main culprit of everything is really lack of sleep. It’s responsible for most of the things that our body struggles with in a negative sense. If we are sleepy, we automatically feel much more hunger and appetite. This means that we reach for food more often, and we also get an appetite for products that are unhealthy, high calorie and which certainly have a big impact on our weight. If we do not sleep well, we act much slower, and this means that we do something in a hurry to make it on time. We reach for junk food, clog up with fast food, choose processed food.
All this means that although it seems to us that we eat well in most cases, the lack of sleep can completely change it all.
Stress destroys everything
Each of us certainly knows that stress is able to destroy our health and even our lives. If a large amount of cortisol is secreted in the body, hence the stress hormone, this causes an increase in appetite. Most of us eat under stress and are most often things that are unhealthy and high in calories. If stress lasts for a long time, then we eat more and more often, more and more, and thus – our body weight increases.
Use of antidepressants
Many people who take antidepressants struggle with gaining weight very quickly. In such cases, you should consult this situation with your attending physician, but under no circumstances should you change anything on your own. Depression is a very serious illness, and stopping taking medication can have very difficult consequences for us. Often, gaining weight can be related to the fact that we feel better, and therefore we have a better appetite. So it’s worth taking into account all factors and together with your doctor apply such a solution that will improve our condition, but at the same time will not cause us to have to fight obesity immediately.
The use of steroids
When it comes to the use of anti-inflammatory steroid drugs, these can cause weight gain. Why? Because they cause fluid retention as well as increased appetite. In addition to the steroid ones, very often those causing a change in body weight are also the antipsychotic drugs for migraines, convulsions, hypertension and diabetes. It’s also often believed that contraceptive medications can also be the reason for water retention and thus weight gain. This is usually a short-term effect and quickly returns to normal, but if something raises our doubts, it’s worth discussing this aspect with a gynecologist.
Summary
So, as you can see, there are several reasons that can make you gain weight, even though we eat quite well. So maybe it’;s worth eliminating them first, check whether they are the ones affecting us, and only then reduce the amount of calories taken even more? Of course, it’s known that the basis is healthy nutrition and activity, and this should be the focus, but if we use all this, let’s look a little deeper into the problem. In the second part of the article, we will try to look for other causes of weight gain, so that we can fully visualise everything for you and show you what the cause of problems you are struggling with may be.
